Mel Melton & the Wicked Mojos - Swamp Slinger

"On Stage and Off, Melton Can Cook."
- Chicago Sun Times

Mel Melton was dubbed "The Zydeco Chef" by his friend and former bandmate C.J. Chenier. Now get ready for zydeco and cajun style blues cooked up by a real Swamp Slinger. Mel got his start in the music business playing harmonica in Clifton Chenier's Red Hot Louisiana Band while working as a chef in Lafayette, Louisiana. After that he fronted The Bayou Rhythm Band with Sonny Landreth on guitar and they recorded an album for Epic Records. Later Clifton's son C.J. Chenier joined the band on keyboards. After leaving that band Mel ran an award winning cajun food restaurant in Chicago. Now Mel is back in the music spotlight with his new band The Wicked Mojos. This new album, titled Swamp Slinger, also reunites him with both Sonny and C.J. as guest musicians on this rockin' set of swamp blues originals.

"Melton cooks up plenty of good harmonica-based Cajun blues and stirs it up in his own way. These boys have cooked up a wonderful concoction that left my CD player smelling like gumbo for a week."
- CRLM, Dirty Linen Magazine

"Swamp Slinger is all top-shelf action."
- Blues Revue Magazine

"A holy fusion of the highly rhythmic beat of Zydeco and Cajun music with deep swamp blues."
- Mark Smith, West Michigan Blues Society

"A rocking Cajun style that makes you crave red beans and rice and a couple of icy cold beverages."
-Natchel' Blues Network

"Melton plays a mean harmonica and serves up a hot vocal. Mel and the Mojos do not disappoint."
- Armando Canales, The Critical Review

"The Wicked Mojos are a band that's pure South with a little bit of everything thrown in: blues, Zydeco, Cajun swamp pop, New Orleans R&B - a mighty fine gumbo, just right for dancing. A fine band with lots of versatility."
- Andy Grigg, Real Blues Magazine

"A top notch band. One part Zydeco, two parts blues, a pinch of Cajun and a dash of New Orleans jazz and funk. It's original, refreshing and it holds up."
- Fetzer Mills, Jr., Magnet Magazine

"Mel lays down a potent brew of swamp blues and Cajun boogie. His harmonica work is special: he's as expressive and creative as any blues harp player in the biz and he's always got bayou vibe in his blues mix."
- Philip Van Vleck, The Spectator

"A simmering gumbo of Cajun goodness that rips at the senses."
-John Muller, Blues Power Blues Society
