When you leave San Jose, which is in
a valley, you have to go over the mountains to get to the coast. Their
idea of a major highway is a 2 lane blacktop with no guardrails overlooking
steep hillsides. And of course you get stuck behind big, slow moving trucks.
|
After the mountains comes long rolling
tree lined roads that almost seem like tunnels filled with sunlight filtered
thru lush greenery.

I decided my first day in Costa Rica
was a lucky one when I spotted this double rainbow. This was a good omen
for my 4 week stay.

Sunset over the pacific ocean, at the
rivermouth in Tamarindo Bay. I flew out of Philadelphia on a cold February
day, a mere 13 hours before I took this photo. The van was my cab ride
from San Jose to Tamarindo, a 5 hour ride. Ah, the miracles of modern
life.
|
This is a beach bar at Avellanas, a popular
surf spot south of Tamarindo. How cool is this? Sit in the shade, sip
a cold fruit smoothie and watch the surf.
|
This is a pig, a very large pig. He hangs
out at this beach bar pictured to the left. Check out the picture of him
in the surf on the Costa Rica surfing page.

This picture is my last sunset in Costa,
while riding the bus back to San Jose for a flight out the next morning.
I was sitting by the emergency exit window. "ESCAPE"; I did
for awhile, then it was back to reality

An Iguana on a piece of driftwood along
the beach. This ain't the Jersey Shore!
|
This statue is a about 3' tall. It was
in front of some small shop and I just thought it was great. Unfortunatly
too heavy and large to take home.
