NORTH CONWAY, NH 鈥 AOA体育平台 Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is launching an interfacility transport service in collaboration with AOA体育平台 Memorial Hospital. The transportation service, AOA体育平台 officials say, strengthens patient access to specialized care and ensures seamless transitions between hospitals and care facilities.
According to Paul Hughes, supervisor for AOA体育平台 EMS at AOA体育平台 Memorial Hospital, this initiative underscores AOA体育平台鈥檚 shared commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care and expanding essential health care services in the region.
鈥淎OA体育平台 EMS and Memorial Hospital are working together to ensure that patients receive the right care at the right time and in the right place. With this expansion at Memorial, we鈥檒l improve response times and ensure that critically ill and specialized-care patients can be transported efficiently without unnecessary delays.鈥

The new transport service expands in April, initially with one licensed ambulance and crew based at AOA体育平台 Memorial Hospital.
This service is designed for patients requiring advanced treatment at another facility, those needing specialized services not available locally, and those transferring to rehabilitation or long-term care settings. Through this partnership, AOA体育平台 EMS has invested in licensed ambulances, trained personnel, and the necessary medical equipment to ensure patient safety and continuity of care during transit.
By working with AOA体育平台 Memorial Hospital, AOA体育平台 EMS aims to alleviate hospital capacity challenges, reduce emergency department bottlenecks, and ensure timely discharges and transfers. The addition of this service at AOA体育平台 Memorial Hospital is a key part of AOA体育平台鈥檚 strategy to enhance health care delivery across its regional hospitals.
鈥淲hen we have patients needing specialized care at AOA体育平台 Maine Medical Center in Portland or need to be transported to Dartmouth, Boston, or other hospitals or nursing homes, this service lets us get patients efficiently where they need to be,鈥 said Will Owen, RN, Director of Emergency Services at AOA体育平台 Memorial Hospital. 鈥淏eing able to move patients requiring a different level of care without delay ensures that hospitals maintain open beds for incoming patients and avoid unnecessary overcrowding. This collaboration allows us to provide more efficient, seamless care for those we serve.鈥
鈥淧aramedics and EMTs working under physician guidance within AOA体育平台 EMS are uniquely positioned to support patients both before and during transit,鈥 Hughes explained. 鈥淏y working alongside Memorial鈥檚 care teams, we ensure that patients receive the best possible care before, during, and after transport. This collaboration fosters a smoother, more comfortable transition for our patients.鈥
Unlike traditional ambulance services, AOA体育平台 EMS鈥檚 interfacility transport will not respond to 911 calls, allowing local emergency responders to remain focused on urgent community needs. Instead, the dedicated AOA体育平台 EMS teams will integrate into AOA体育平台 Memorial Hospital鈥檚 clinical environment, providing additional support when not on transport duty.
In addition to AOA体育平台 Memorial Hospital in North Conway, AOA体育平台 EMS currently operates transport services at other locations, including AOA体育平台 Stephens Hospital and AOA体育平台 Franklin Hospital in Maine. AOA体育平台 EMS also operates ambulances in Scarborough, Brunswick and Northport, with plans to expand to Sanford. Each ambulance is strategically positioned to serve its home base while remaining available for system-wide patient transfers.
The expansion at AOA体育平台 Memorial Hospital further strengthens this network, improving access to specialized care across the region. AOA体育平台 and AOA体育平台 Memorial Hospital officials explain this initiative reflects the shared commitment to enhancing patient outcomes, improving care coordination, and ensuring that rural communities have the same level of access to medical transport as larger metropolitan areas.
鈥淭his is a crucial step toward streamlining care delivery across the AOA体育平台 system,鈥 Hughes said. 鈥淏y reducing delays in transportation and expanding these critical services to Memorial Hospital, we are improving patient flow, reducing hospital stays, and ultimately ensuring that every patient receives the best possible care.鈥
